Farrside by Farr Pinot Noir 2007
Rating: 93
Bought: Sep 09
Cost: $58
Opened: Feb 13

Pinot Noir is what Gary Farr is renowned for and with this wine you can understand why. Slightly sweet with flavours of cherries and berry furits. It has very smooth fine tannins and a lovely long finish. It must be close to its peak drinking time.
Toi Toi Reserve Pinot Gris 2010
Rating: 91
Bought: Feb 13
Cost: $17
Opened: Feb 13

Its unusual to find a "reserve" Pinot Gris, but that's what this wine is, from a single vineyard in the Omaka Valley of Marlborough. Flavours of pear, fig and spice. Quite intense, rich and mouth filling with a long finish. It lives up to its reserve label.
Brookland Valley Verse 1 Chardonnay 2011
Rating: 89
Bought: Feb 13
Cost: $15
Opened: Feb 13

Brookland Valley is one of the most beautiful cellar door/restaurants in Margaret River and is well worth a visit. Verse 1 is Brookland Valley's second label, sourcing fruit from a wider range of Margaret River sites. Flavours of white peach, melons and tropical fruit with a smooth creamy finish. A good value for money wine.
Kalleske Clarrys Grenache Shiraz 2012
Rating: 92
Bought: Feb 13
Cost: $17
Opened: Feb 13

A classic red wine blend from the Barossa Valley, Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. Beautiful flavours of juicy raspberries and blackberries with some liquorice and spice. Will improve with some time in the bottle if you can resist the temptation to dirnk it now.
Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz 2011
Rating: 92
Bought: Feb 13
Cost: $20
Opened: Feb 13

Torbreck is one of our favourite wineries. 2011 was a difficult vintage with wet conditions around much of Australia. Consequently some of the better wines were not made, and the good fruit was used to enhance other wines, in Torbreck's case the Woodcutters Shiraz. Strong ripe fruit flavours of blackberry, plum and liquorice. This wine will improve for a year or two yet.
Jasper Hill Emily’s Paddock Shiraz Cabernet Franc 2011
Rating: 94
Bought: Sep 02
Cost: $82
Opened: Feb 13

A mature wine that is ready to be drunk. The Shiraz Cabernet Franc is an unusual blend as Cabernet Franc is a rare grape variety in Australia and most of what is grown goes into Cabernet blends. The effect of the Cabernet Franc is to soften the Shiraz and make it a more elegant wine. A mix of fruit flavours, plums and prunes, and mature age characters of mint, spice and oak. Beautiful long aftertaste, a wine to be savoured.
Tamar Ridge Kayena Vineyard Pinot Gris 2011
Rating: 89
Bought: Feb 13
Cost: $21
Opened: Feb 13

Has the typical Pinot Gris pear flavours, but a little more minerally than most, reflecting its cool climate Tasmanian origins.
Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2004
Rating: 95
Bought: Sep 05
Cost: $60
Opened: Feb 13

This is rated as Australia's best Shiraz Viognier, and it is! It has the beautiful fruit flavours of the Shiraz, blackcurrant and spice, softened and enhanced by the Viognier. It is complex with a long finish. At nine years old, it is showing its age and I suspect has started to decline, drink soon and enjoy.
Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2003
Rating: 95
Bought: Sep 03
Cost: $38
Opened: Feb 13

This wine is consistently rated as one of the best Riesling's in Australia, if not the best, and it lived up to its reputation. At first I was a little worried that it was passed it as the beautiful flavours faded quiet quickly. But as the wine breathed and warmed up the full flavours came out and persisted. With its bottle age of 10 years, the wine was quite coloured, like an aged Chardonnay. It had flavours of lemon and lime and was quite minerally. It was rich, honeyed and mouthfilling.
Yeringberg Cabernets 2003
Rating: 92
Bought: Jun 05
Cost: $55
Opened: Feb 13

A blend of four of the five Bordeaux varieties, lacking Petit Verdot. With age it has matured into a smooth and fully integrated wine with flavours of blackcurrant and cassis with fine tannins. Drinking at its peak now, a wine to be savoured.
