Wine Reviews
Woodlands Chloe Reserve Chardonnay 2010
Strong flavours of tropical fruits, lychees and grapefruit. Yeasty, clean, austere, and acidic and somewhat un-Chardonnay like. Has the acid and structure to evolve and improve and in time will be an excellent wine. Leave in the cellar for a year or two.
Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
A lovely full rich wine with true cabernet flavours. The tannins have had time to mellow leaving black fruit flavours. Another excellent cabernet from Margaret River.
Rockford Moppa Springs Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2008
A great Barossa blend and suitably aged to be ready to drink now. Grenache flavours of plum and boiled lollies, finishing jammy, soft and a little tannic.
Brown Brothers Single Vineyard Heathcote Shiraz 2009
A traditional variety from Brown Brothers who must have the widest range of wine varieties in Australia. Tastes of plum, cedar and leather. Rather simple and short, but easy to drink.
Penfolds Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay 2006
The evolution of the “White Grange” continues. Clean white peach flavours with a restrained and structured palate. A wine that takes some time to open up and decanting is recommended. A very good wine, but one that loses out in the value for money stakes.
Mount Mary Chardonnay 2006
A complex and structured Chardonnay with nectarine and white peach flavours and a long lean and minerally finish.
Savaterre Chardonnay 2008
Beautifully smooth and flavoursome Chardonnay which had matured to perfection. Lemon, grapefruit and pear flavours.
Pizzini Pinot Grigio 2012
Pale colour, pears and white peach, finishes dry and acidic. Pizzini is renowned for the range of wine varieties it produces.
Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Strong typical cabernet nose and palate, a beautiful drink at its peak.
St Hallett Blackwell Shiraz 2006
Strong blackberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours. Powerful and big with characteristic Shiraz flavour. Fruit driven and not as jammy as many Barossa shirazes.
