Napa Valley Day 1

Wine Pourings has arrived in the Napa Valley!  After a 90minute drive from San Francisco the valley narrows and the vines start to appear.  It has a similar feel to the Clare Valley in Australia with lots of hills and very dry. It takes a while to get to the 'charm' but once there it is not to be missed!

We are staying at a very beautiful B&B in St Helena (pictured) which is a very quaint town with an eclectic mix of architecture from mission-style haciendas to French châteaux to classic rural barns to bold geometric structures.  We hope to see many of them throughout the 50km valley.

"There are so many great, gorgeous winery buildings in the Napa Valley,” says Bob Torres, principal of Trinchero Family Estates.

There are more than 450 wineries in the Napa Valley and while we will only get to some of them we expect it will be an amazing experience of the sense!!

Today we took an orientation drive along the valley and got our bearings.  As it was late afternoon we drove into the Sutter Home Winery - mostly because I wanted photos of the house (pictured).  We sampled some wines and left with a Reserve White Zinfandel which is actually a rose and very nice!! Lovely pre-dinner wine!!

For dinner we went to Market on very quaint village like Main Street of St Helena...it was by far the best meal I have had in 3 weeks in the USA! Recommended by the 2013 Michelin Guide it is definitely worth a visit - great food and great service!!
