TMS Consulting corporate retreat
An Introduction to Wine course was presented as part of the annual TMS Consulting Retreat. After two days of hard work team building, planning and strategising for the future the team was ready for some lighter moments.
Six core wine varieties were selected, Riesling, pinot Gris, chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and Shiraz. A representative wine for each variety from one of the leading wine regions was tasted, the 3 whites in one bracket followed by 3 reds.
Wine consultant Ralph Henderson gave an overview of wine styles, what to look for in each of the varieties and how to tell them apart, noting the distinctive nose and flavour of each variety. Despite there being a number of practised wine drinkers in the group all gained new knowledge about the wine varieties and their personal tastes and preferences.
Everyone took away some new tips on how to buy and serve wine and how to get better value from their wine dollars.
The wines tasted were:
- Jim Barry Lodge Hill Riesling 2011 from the Clare Valley
- Kumeu River Pinot Gris 2009 from New Zealand
- Leeuwin Estate Prelude Chardonnay 2010 from Margaret River
- Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir 2010 from the Yarra Valley
- Yalumba The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from the Coonawarra
- Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz 2009 from South Australia.
