Yarra Valley Wine Dinner
The aim of the dinner was to explore the wines of the Yarra Valley while enjoying a three course meal that had been designed to match the wines. The venue for this event was Olivers Cafe, on the Esplanade at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.
On arrival guests were greeted with a glass of Innocent Bystander Pinot Gris.
With the first course, three Chardonnay's were poured, from Coldstream Hills, Be Bortoli and Punt Road. The Punt Road 2011 from the Napoleone Vineyard was voted the pick of the three.
With the second course, a light chicken dish, three Pinot Noir were poured, from Coldstream Hills, Punt Road and St Huberts. There was equal support for the Punt Road and St Huberts.
With the main course, roast lamb some serious Cabernet Sauvignon's were enjoyed, from Oakridge, Punt Road and Warramate. The Warramate Black Label was the pick of the three and clearly the wine of the night.
Tasting notes on all these wines are on the Wine Reviews page.
Thanks to Andrew Strange for selecting and preparing an excellent menu and to Uta Rabiger of Olivers Cafe for hosting the evening.
