Margaret River Wine in Brisbane
A small group of wineries presented their wines at this event in Brisbane, seven in total. And while the quantity may have been down the quality wasn't, with a fine range of wines across the spectrum of famed Margaret River varieties. Margaret River is best known for its Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and there was no shortage of these two varieties. A selection of Semillon Sauvignon Blancs and Shiraz were also on show.
It was interesting to taste the diversity of flavours in the Chardonnay and Cabernets from one region and from the same vintage.
Having visited the Capel Vale cellar door on a number of occasions I was interested in their range of wines which are quite different from what I remember from those visits. The standout wine was undoubtedly the Single Vineyard Scholar Cabernet Sauvignon of which two vintages were available for tasting. The 2011 was excellent, but the 2007 was outstanding and still had a lot of years to go.
